A creative fellowship for young curators from Scotland and India designed to develop curatorial and leadership skills through co-producing a group print exhibition reflecting on Scotland and India’s past, present and future relationships.
Future Flow is an exciting learning opportunity for young adults interested in curating and producing art exhibitions, supported by established professionals working in the visual arts, printmaking and cultural management. Exploring the intersection of arts and heritage in times of change, From Where I Stand is the culmination of this project; a group exhibition curated by the fellows.
This project is the first of its kind to connect and develop young art talent in Scotland and India. Devised by Edinburgh Printmakers in partnership with Flow India, the Future Flow project has seen 20 India and Scotland based young art workers collaborate in partnership to deliver a new exhibition and series of public events as part of British Council’s India/UK Together, a Season of Culture.
Future Flow explores the intersection of arts and heritage in times of change, starting from the premise that to influence our future, we need to comprehend our present, and understand our past. The Fellows have shaped and developed the exhibition through commissioning 7 artists and curating the work they produce. The exhibition will push the boundaries of printmaking exploring sculptural and digital forms as well as traditional paper and textiles prints.
From Where I Stand is one of the outcomes of a 10 month-long programme which sees the curatorial Future Flow fellowship explore existing and possible future connections between India and Scotland whilst learning invaluable industry skills. Future Flow endeavours to empower young curators and producers to investigate shared challenges faced by their generation. In addition to the touring exhibition a new initiative will see the creation of an ongoing resource documenting the relationship between India and Scotland, exploring perspectives and histories that were previously overlooked.
Future Flow has been developed by Edinburgh Printmakers and Flow India working with the National Institute of Design, India, Edinburgh College of Art and the Centre for Research Collections at the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University, and Queen Margaret University.
The project is supported by The British Council.
It is part of the British Council’s India/UK Together, a Season of Culture, which marks the deep connections and 75th anniversary of India with a landmark programme that strengthens the friendship and vibrant cultural bonds of both countries, while addressing shared global challenges.
