Much of the work Page Park Architects undertake is with listed buildings, or set within existing environments, as a result they need to consider how they link their new provision, whether a new building or addition, to what is already there. They have to make connections – between users, activities and settings.'
During this talk, they will reflect on the 3 approaches they use in their work with historic buildings, giving some examples from their previous experience.
The first involves careful surgery to the existing fabric and stitching back together – realised at the completed CCA in Glasgow, McManus Galleries in Dundee and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh.
The second approach includes the attachment of new onto the old as a ‘battery pack’. Here they will share examples from The Lighthouse in Glasgow, Rosslyn Chapel Visitor Centre, Theatre Royal in Glasgow and St Cecilia’s Hall in Edinburgh.
The third approach is a hybrid play on the two, which they are exploring at Edinburgh Printmakers Creative Hub in Fountainbridge. Page Park Architects will share their journey through the project to date from historic analysis of the site at the former British Rubber Company Headquarters through to our vision for the new facility.
