Edinburgh Printmakers are delighted to present a very special drawing workshop for Big Draw Festival 2017.

In the spirit of this year's Big Draw and its Living Lines, this workshop will be about drawing new animals and monsters to life - this is made easier by the thinning lines between our world and the (spooky) otherworld thanks to the fast-approaching Hallowe'en. In the workshop, we will be making lots of marks on BIG paper, fitting as many creatures as possible into the page. From there, we're going be squishing them and squashing them together to make bigger, better monsters to go about their spooky deeds - whatever they are. We'll be learning about drawing, mark making, and how to use our imaginations to create narratives and ideas through working together.

The workshop will be led by artist and educator Mhairi Braden. Mhairi is an Edinburgh based Irish Illustrator, printmaker and teller of stories; creating a range of different works - from sensitive autobiographical comics to bold pieces on the gods and rituals of her Scottish and Irish heritage. She is a recent graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, and teaches at The Edinburgh Drawing School.

The workshop is open to children ages 5 to 10, and places are limited so best to book places early. This is a great opportunity to come in and make art in a gallery setting, where we'll be encouraged to be as creative as we can!

The Big Draw Festival is for anyone who loves to draw, as well as those who think they can't! It's an opportunity to join a global community in celebration of the universal language of drawing. From 1-31 October, every year, thousands of enjoyable and experimental drawing activities connect people of all ages with schools, galleries, museums, libraries, heritage sites, village halls, refugee organisations, outdoor spaces - all sorts of places - artists, scientists, designers, illustrators, inventors and each other. Since launching in 2000, the festival has taken place in 28 countries around the world, engaged over 3 million people and even clocked up two world records.
