‘Love Letters to Printmaking’ began with the aim of growing our network with other printmakers and print studios across the world by connecting our love of print through letters. We invited anyone - artists, staff, and observers - to participate by sending us a hand-written letter. They could be about why they love printmaking where they love to do printmaking, what processes they enjoy, or even about a specific work that inspires them. A sort of ‘ode to’ even, a poem or a story they could share.

We received over 30 submissions from our local neighbourhood, across the UK, and internationally. We reached as far as Australia and Canada and made connections with studios in the UK such as Spike Print Studio in Bristol and Leicester Print Workshop.

This project proves how far a small project like this can reach and demonstrates the international presence of Edinburgh Printmakers, known for our print studio and contribution to honouring printmaking as a fine art medium. These letters are our evidence that people, no matter their location, share our values.

Building community is an important aspect of Edinburgh Printmakers. We continually work to expand it through projects like this, our workshops and courses, and exhibitions - and ensuring these are open and accessible to anyone, no matter their level of printmaking skills.
