Creative studio spaces in Edinburgh Printmakers' cultural hub
Join the creative community at Castle Mills and work in a treasured historic building in an evolving area of Edinburgh.

Some of our creative industries tenants are moving on, which has generated new opportunities for artists and creative companies to lease studios in our beautiful building in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh.

There are two spacious, light-filled studios available within our arts and design hub, designed to provide 24/7 access with independent secure entry, separate from our print studio and galleries.
- Studio 2 is 59m2. It is currently run by a collective of freelancers. This studio is available from 4 January, 2027.
- Studio 7 is 28.5m2. The studio is available from 1 December, 2026. It may be possible to rent desk space as part of a shared studio.
Our subsidised studios can be used flexibly by different sorts of practitioners and creative companies. To date, craft specialists, illustrators, graphic designers, interior designers, product designers, film companies, painters, and tattoo artists have held leases. We welcome all types of creative individuals and companies wanting to work in a friendly and mutually self-supportive environment.

Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities PhD Internship
This internship will build on work carried out by our current SGSAH intern Mahtab Karami who is developing a research framework to evaluate the social, cultural and economic benefits of funding for arts organisations, using Edinburgh Printmakers as a case study. The Year 2 Doctoral Intern will respond to this framework and design and deliver a series of projects to identify new ways of measuring “triple bottom line” value for small and medium-sized arts organisations in Scotland, helping to capture their wider impact beyond traditional financial metrics.

The programme is open to arts and humanities PhD students in Scotland, regardless of funding source. Any doctoral researcher that meets the following criteria can benefit from this programme:
- You are registered at a SGSAH member HEI;
- You are in 2nd or early in your 3rd year (full time equivalent) at 1 October 2026*;
- You are studying an arts and humanities discipline. The AHRC’s subject coverage is here;
- You are eligible to work in the UK;
- You have not already undertaken an internship or residency through SGSAH’s programme.
