Castle Mills Update

In April, we held two tours around Castle Mills for Friends of Edinburgh Printmakers. These tours gave everyone a chance to see how the building is taking shape, particularly our new studio, shop, café and the recently opened entrance to Dundee Street.

Ground floor of the Creative Industries Hub

We started our tour in the Creative Industries Hub. This gave us our first glimpse of how much the building has been transformed inside, with the newly renovated windows and sky light allowing daylight to flood in.

One year into the building project to convert Castle Mills into an accessible arts centre, we are also starting to see significant changes to the structure and internal layout of the building.

Martin Sinclair, Project Manager led the tour around the building

The newly created triple arch entrance to Dundee Street has been opened up, providing lots of natural light for our future shop. While the Members’ Gallery timber floor has been installed in the space overlooking the shop. The Café is also starting to take shape, with work on the extension walls, roofing and roof lights bringing this new space together.

The new studio with light coming in through the rooflights

The studio now benefits from roof lights to create a light, open space. As part of the tour we were also able to go outside to see the newly completed roof and the original brickwork, which is being restored to its former glory.

Watch this space for further updates in the coming weeks!
